Nice update on Google maps. For another awsome Google product, check out Google Earth. The download is a bit large (10 megs) but well worth it. You’ll also need high-speed internet access for this to work well. The program essentially does everything that Google maps does including finding directions. However, you can also change your angle of view to see things in 3D relief… from the buildings of major US cities to the Himalaya Mountains to the Berkley Pit in Butte, Montana; you can ‘fly’ from one point on the globe to another in a matter of seconds; you can access area crime stats, geological data, school zone information, city information, population density information and any other type of statistical info you may be interested in. Everything is rendedred in satellite imagery or photography… resolution can vary depending on what is available. Oh, and the program is free. Check it out.
I’ve used both of these for a while, pretty cool stuff. I heard Microsoft had one as well, haven’t seen it yet though. Supposedly its supposed to be even better. I guess Microsoft feels that Google is one of their biggest competitors.
Imagine my shock – Microsoft copies a competitor? Now Google can join the ranks of IBM, Apple, Netscape, Intuit, and Norton (to name a few). I did find their version HERE, but after looking around, I wouldn’t say that it’s better than Google’s just yet.
Microsoft’s version is a poor imitation. The MSN Bozeman satellite imagery is seriously outdated… by about 8 or 9 years. The Google satellite imagery of Bozeman is within 9 months. I’d say that’s a significant difference. I’ll stick to my Google-ware.
