My email to Oprah Winfrey...
I am a 28 year old male, and probably not a part of your largest demographic. I didn't think that I would ever have cause to write The Oprah Winfrey show on anything, but after the Hermes discussion, I can't help but write.
Stores close. People in retail work long hours on their feet, and when the time comes for the store to close, it's not uncommon for them to restrict access to customers that want in at the last minute, allowing those that are remaining in the store to wrap up their shopping.
Yes Oprah, you are a diva. As much as you might like to think that you are in touch with the bourgeois, your actions do not reflect that. You are a powerful woman, and knowing this, you used your "embarrasment" as an excuse to jeapordize the jobs of several people, not to mention the profits of entire company.
Congratulations on joining the ranks of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton for donning the guise of "social activism". Next time you don't get your way, leave the race card in your pocket 'til it's warranted.
If you aren't sure what I'm referencing, you can read about it HERE. As for the relevance (all of this broke earlier this summer), this issue was re-addressed on one of the first episodes of Oprah's new season. After a summer of hurricanes, Lance Armstrong's seventh tour win, etc - this was the content of the show. Hence the email...

What are you doing watching Oprah in the first place?
Actually, I wasn’t watching Oprah, and I haven’t seen the episode (honestly). I’ve heard clips on the radio and I read a transcript of the episode online – an article detailing her complaints fired me up enough to write.
I appreciate your concern though Rick – Kami will let you know if it ever becomes a problem or if you need to participate in an intervention.
I normally don’t comment on Jesse’s blogs, although most are comment-worthy. Maybe it’s laziness. But this one I had to comment on. I too, felt disgust at Oprah for pulling out her race card and diva attitude. And, no, I have not seen the episode. Good post, Jesse.
So…did you hear back from Ophah? You were right on…just what I was thinking at the time I heard it.
