Happy Monday. I tried writing a post yesterday while hosting an open house, but I had already posted about the edge-of-your-seat excitement derived from such an event.
What I do find exciting is my new home network. With the addition of a Tivo in the living room (complete with a wireless adapter), not only can I record tv digitally, but I can also stream music from either my desktop or my laptop through my Tivo and have it played through my home theater system. For a guy that has over 600 cds, this is tantamount to a bald guy finding a pipeline of spray-on hair in his bathroom. I’m not sure if I’m more giddy by the library of music now available by the push of a button or by the technology that allows it. I don’t know how they make it work, but I know how to make the most of it - this seems to be a great source of joy for me. I bought the Tivo for this feature primarily - recording and archiving tv shows are nice, but probably not worth the money in my book. Being able to select from any one of a thousand songs on my computer and hear it broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1 = PRICELESS. Plus it’s a pretty cool party trick - how many people can switch seamlessly from Meatloaf to Skee-lo? From Saigon Kick to K7? From “Here Comes the Hotstepper” to “Informer”? Some of you won’t have any idea what I’m talking about - but those that do are jealous.

I confess. I’m jealous.
I have an older generation TiVo that doesn’t have the ability to network like your does. I guess I’ll have to upgrade.
Did you just drop “Informer” on us? Are we regressing a little bit? Along with Meatloaf and Saigon Kick, I dunno……
I must confess that I am not quite as into the tivo as jess, but i do know that i will be using some b’day money to get a wireless adapter. For those who dont own tivo, i highly recommend it. I am a convert and will never look back.
That’s pretty cool. Here’s another product that all you techies will find alluring: Sonos Digital Music System. Sonos is the first wireless, multi-room digital music system that lets you play all your digital music, all over your houseĀand control it all from the palm of your hand with a remote touch pad. With a wireless Sonos Controller in hand, you’ll have instant access to all your digital music, plus Internet radio, subscriptions to online audio services like Rhapsody and Audible.com, and even music from your favorite CD or MP3 player (yes, including I-pods).
And, with Sonos ZonePlayers in the rooms of your choice, you can play the same song in different rooms, or different songs in different rooms. To start listening, just grab the full-color Controller and simply pick a room, pick a song and hit play.
This is absolutely one of the best products I’ve seen for whole house/theater audio in a long time.
That’s my product plug for the day. Check it out at sonos.com
Boy, do I feel old.
I should clarify my comment from earlier. I meant to say that I do not use as many features as jesse, but i do love my tivo for its primary use: giving me a life outside tv on thursday nights.
