So every once in awhile I guess it’s healthy to step outside of your comfort zone and write about something that you aren’t normally comfortable about – here’s my attempt…
I couldn’t write with any brevity a memoir of my relationship with the scale. I already tried to do that in this post, and found it to be a nauseating course. So in short, know this: I’ve struggled with my self-image most of my life, but things have gotten silly since our move to Washington. Finally, two months before the birth of my daughter, I realized that I didn’t want to hide from the cameras when my daughter’s birth was memorialized, and I decided to get some help.
Help came in the form of a man named Ray Hecita. A nutritionalist and fitness trainer, Ray broke out the calipers and took some measurements. I weighed in at 258 pounds, and thanks to the afore-mentioned calipers, we soon found out that of that 258 pounds, 186 of it was lean muscle mass and 72 of it was fat. He gave me a regimen of diet and exercise: six small meals a day, high in protein, but balanced with essential fats, starchy carbs and grainy carbs; for exercise, interval cardio training and weight training every other day.
Three and half months later, I’ve met my goal, which was 10% body fat. I’ve gained 27 pounds of muscle, lost 50 pounds of fat weight, and weigh 230 pounds. I’ll never be a “little guy.” God’s given me a frame to pack weight – it’s just up to me to determine if it carries fat or muscle.
My only real reason for posting this is that I know that there are others who could also use Ray’s help, and if you’re in the Puget Sound area, than you should give him a chance. Ray has a passion for healthy living, and the program is easy to follow and overall, inexpensive. If you’re interested, drop Ray an email at rj2hecita{at}msn.com.
Don’t worry – more pics of Selah coming soon…

Very proud of you.
Dad

What a huge accomplishment! I always enjoy coming back to your site and reading what you have to say. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Jesse! I didn’t even recognize you!!! Unfortunately, being on the other side of the country, I won’t be able to work with your nutritionist-guru… Maybe you could just email me your regimen (meal plans included, please!)
