Ahhh…Christmas in Montana - lots of food, lots of presents, and lots of guns! Miles City is unseasonably warm (45 degrees today), so instead of making snowmen or getting into snowball fights, we decided to carve up a pumpkin from 150 yards. Instead of a knife we used an open-sight .45-70 - and for anyone familiar with the caliber and the distance - you can understand why we feel pretty good about the results (referencing the picture to the left). One shot (or one eye) is my brother-in-laws, and one shot is mine. You can see that someone grazed it pretty handily at the top of the pumpkin, but we aren’t sure who to atrribute that to. Still, I think it’s the best jack-o-lantern I’ve ever made - especially from 150 yards.
Merry Christmas!

Montana boys and our toys!!
Not a bad way to spend Christmas!

Merry Christmas,
nothing like some guns in Montana,

I must admit that I was more than impressed. And what a great looking pumpkin. He should have remained a member of the family, but Jess and Rob later blew him to pieces with Rob’s .45 Ruger pistol. What Jess didn’t mention: the other shooters were Andrea, Deb, and Deb’s dad, Frank. Only the two great-grandmothers (me and Tillie) didn’t shoot. Moral to the story: the family that shoots together, hoots together.
My kind of Christmas and yet one more reason why I live in Montana. The Flathead was SNOWY so we didn’t do any shooting. Have a great New Year Jess, Kami, Selah, et al!
