Letter to Selah
Mar 15th, 2008 by Jesse Moore
Dearest daughter,
Your mom has been out of town for five days in a row. You’re only eighteen months old, and while you don’t vocalize it, I know that her absence is noticed by you. I don’t want to bring her up in case it sends you into a frantic search down the hall and into every room. I know how disappointed you get when Elmo doesn’t come up on the tv, so I can only imagine how disappointed you would be if you misinterpreted my mention of your mother as an invocation of her arrival.
I just wanted to let you know what a pleasure you’ve been the last five days. You’ve been absolutely wonderful. I’m admittedly exhausted, but it’s no fault of yours. I’m very proud of your independence and your ability to play without a commitment from others. You surprise me with your knowledge and your unselfish nature, and bless me with unsolicited hugs and fits of laughter.
Tomorrow morning your mom will wake you, and I look forward to your enthusiastic reaction - no doubt marked with some jumping, one-legged marching and a dazzling display of other moves you perfected in your mom’s absence. I’ll try not to seem affected if you give her the lion’s share of affection over the next few days, but know that I’ve loved our time together, and that usually dad’s aren’t as stalwart as they appear.
Love, Dad

Beautiful. (in the same spirit of “Letters to Jess”)
Excellent Jess–be sure and save this one or print it out Selah will treasure this in years to come!! Love Cathy
I had a great trip. Knowing both of you were having fun together and with Deb made my trip easier. Oh, how I missed you though! It is so great to be home!
It was great to see all that has been imparted into Selah
from her parents. I was amazed at the inner peace and character
already at work in her life. Wonderful to behold and a blessing
to a gramma’s heart.
love you,
Mom
