If you look at the top of the page, you’ll see that there are two new tabs that didn’t exist before today. One is the new home of Spinning – no different from the old version except that putting it in a blog format allows readers the opportunity to comment on the music. This might be more for me than it is for you – only because I would normally have to wait until the release of a Blog Sessions cd to get any feedback on the music I’m passionate about.

The other tab is for our new Selah page, and I don’t think that I have to explain this one Kami wanted a place where she could post photos or videos of Selah more frequently, and again, everyone will be allow to comment on our lovely little girl.

Thanks again to Mike – as putting this together was way outside my comfort zone.

Blog Sessions Volume 3 feedback poll

So…Blog Sessions Volume 3 has been out for close to a month now, and last night I sent out the last few copies that I knew needed distribution. In all, I created 45 copies, of which 66% were mailed. Estimated production costs were a little over $100 – so this is where I ask for payback! Actually all I want is a little feedback, so I’ve created a very pain-free poll that should make it easy for you to pick your favorite songs off the compilation. If I created this properly, you should be able to choose more than one song, so feel free to select all of your favorites.

So start by answering the poll. Songs are listed in the order that they appear, so if you don’t have the cd nearby but know what track number it is, you should still be able to vote. Additional comments are appreciated, so don’t be afraid to expand on your selections. If you haven’t received a Blog Sessions disk, CLICK HERE and send me a quick email with your address.

Announcing the release of Blog Sessions Volume 3

Merry Christmas! Consider this my Christmas gift to you. I spent part of Christmas day finalizing the sequence of the release of Blog Sessions: Volume 3. It’s been over two years since the last release, so for those that aren’t familiar, I put together a compilation cd with a track from every album I’ve reviewed on “Spinning.” Usually this would mean that I would put out a cd every 12 months or so, but having started a new business and enlarging our family, reviewing cds hasn’t had the same priority.This is my largest compilation to date – with 19 tracks and 80 minutes of music. As they all are – it’s a very eclectic mix of music, and isn’t meant to be evaluated as a whole so much as for its parts. I actually reviewed 20 albums since Blog Sessions: Volume 2, but only had enough room for 19 tracks, so I did without a track from Switchfoot’s “Nothing is Sound” cd, which I didn’t really like that much anyway.Because it took so long, this is not indicative of the latest release for all of these bands (Jars of Clay, Switchfoot, Third Day, Paul Wright, Sara Groves and Chris Rice all have newer releases than these). Still, the mission of this release is not to get you the newest music, but to expose you to music that you may not have heard before.I handed out the first two copies yesterday, and will be producing and mailing out more as time allows. If you received Volume 2, you should be getting Volume 3 – but anyone who wants a copy should leave a comment

Insomnia in my ear

It’s 3:18am – Selah awoke screaming at 12:55am and I haven’t been able to sleep since. I thought about going to the gym, but I have a business meeting at 5:30pm, and I’m not sure how my body is going to respond to a pre-dawn workout throughout the remainder of the day. Of course, having been up since 1am and having not worked out probably won’t be any help either…I updated SPINNING with a review of “The Flame in All of Us” by Thousand Foot Krutch. I have more than enough songs strung together to compile a new release of “Blog Sessions,” so I’m also starting to put that together this morning

Updated SPINNING. Good cd. I should probably change the name of the “Spinning” page since cds are so ’90’s, but even more legitimately because I’ve uploaded my entire music library (with a few exceptions) onto my new iMac and iTunes. This library is composed of 4435 songs – or 12.7 days of uninterrupted music – or 31 GBs of music. Having a digital music library has allowed me to reacquaint myself with some old favorites, including some songs that we played at our wedding.

Anyway – back to my thought – I should probably change the name of the “Spinning” page to something that better reflects our digital age. Any ideas? My only thought is “Playlist” – and I’m not sold on that either.

Not a fan of old computers

I haven’t done a cd review in awhile, mostly because I have to modify that page on my eight-year old home computer, which is so slow that it this point I think that my cell phone can accomplish more in less time. The iMac purchase is on hold, thanks to the current mortgage crisis and my own prudence. This affects the SPINNING page in two ways: (1) it takes more time and energy to do a simple review, and (2) knowing that I can’t produce a new Blog Sessions compilation on this computer doesn’t give me a sense of urgency in compiling reviews and songs for a new release.

So with that, I did manage to put two new reviews on the SPINNING page, which brings my review count to 18 since my last Blog Sessions release, which is my minimum requirement for compiling a new cd. So as soon as I get a new computer, I can get to work on that.

Anyone actually read these (the reviews)? Or care? Just curious…

Excuse for a short review

Life has been overwhelming – good, but overwhelming. Selah has been moving more and sleeping less, which results in parents that move more and sleep less Despite our sleep deprivation, Kami and I will be going with friends to see The John Butler Trio tonight in Seattle. For those with the second Blog Sessions disc, John Butler is featured on there, and since I first heard their unique sound, they’ve become my favorite band.

I know that SPINNING updates have been few and far between, but I’m gearing up for a new Blog Sessions release, so I hope to pick up the pace a little over the next few months. Of course, I can’t release the cd until my new iMac arrives, and since they haven’t even released the new iMac, it could be a little while. That aside, I didn’t want my review of the cd to be influenced by their live performance (which I expect to be amazing), so I have a cursory review of their latest cd on SPINNING. Sorry for the lack of depth on it, but the music is SO good I don’t want to restrain it with my opinion. UPDATED SPINNING

I know that this might be hard to believe, but after a six-month hiatus I finally UPDATED SPINNING.
